Barcelona

After two days of not feeling very well, today I feel fine. We rode a tour bus around Barcelona. We visited the Picasso Museum. I saw it when I was here 20 years ago, but I only remembered a few things. I didn´t remember that it was in an old stone, medieval building on a narrow street. They kept the original stonework and arches inside. It was very cool to see all that old architecture next to Picasso´s modern work.

Tomorrow, we´ll tour the rest of the city. My friends will see the Gaudi Cathedral. I don´t know if I´ll see it because I saw it before, and I remember it pretty well.

I´ve bought several pairs of earrings which were very cheap. Sadly, my sickness interfered with my wine drinking, and I will have to leave a full bottle here :(
Tomorrow night we´ll had home. First a flight to Frankfurt, then a night in the Frankfurt airport (Yippee!) and then a 9 hour flight to Portland. It will be good to be home and see how Magic is doing even though I´ve had daily reports from the pet sitter that he is fine.
See you all soon.

Adios Peniscola

Yesterday I was sick. I'm not sure why, but it wasn't fun. I didn't eat anything different than my friends ate, but only I got sick. Fortunately, I felt good enough today to take the train to Valencia again and take a tour of the city.

They have a group of 3 museums there that are just amazing buildings. We didn't go inside, but they were remarkable.

Tomorrow we'll take the train to Barcelona. We stay there two nights and then get back on the plane to head home.

Valencia

Yesterday we went to Valencia. We had some transportational adventures, but it all worked out well. We stayed on the bus too long going to the train station. We thought there was only one bus and the station was the end of the line, but, evidently, we were wrong. Fortunately, we ended up at a hospital, and they called us a cab.

Valenica was beautiful, and the weather was perfect. We walked around an old neighborhood, saw a cool city wall and gate, and had some great food. We're pooped from yesterday, so day we're just chilling. Tomorrow we're going back and taking a tour on a hop-on, hop-off bus. Tonight, we'll have dinner at a restaurant on the beach. The food is very inexpensive here, and the wine is good and really cheap! We bought wine at the duty-free shop in Frankfurt and carried it (very heavy!) here, but we could have bought it here for 1/4 the price. House wine is less than $2 a glass, and it's not bad!

Well, that's it for now. If you're reading this blog, please write me a note just so I know that someone's looking at it.

Peniscola Webcam

Here's the address of the webcam down the street looking toward the castle.

The Queen of the Castle

Today we went to Peniscola Castle. It's right on the ocean. Popes Benedict XIII and Carlos VII (I think) ruled from there in exile. It was pretty cool. What was interesting to me was the little shelf-like places where people lay down to shoot out these little narrow slots. I can see how it would be pretty easy to defend a place like that.

We had a so-so Italian meal last night. Tonight we're going to see what we can find along the beach. We're having dinner with the girl from England we met on Sunday.

Lots of walking today. Tomorrow we're taking the train to Valencia. That will be fun, I'm sure.

Saludos de Peniscola

We had a great flight. We got seats in the bulkhead which was nice for a nine hour flight! We had a little trouble getting from the airport to the train to Peniscola, but nothing major. One of my friends couldn't find her Eurrail pass when we got to Barcelona, but she found it this morning which was a relief.

We walked along the beach this morning and were happy to find a market where we could buy milk, water, and Coke! Mostly we've been catching up on our sleep today. Tomorrow we'll take a bus to see the local castle and village.

I have a hard time understanding the Spanish they speak here, but, hopefully, I'll get better.

More later.

Leavin' on a Jet Plane

I'm all packed (I hope) and ready to go. I'll try to post to this blog as often as I can and keep you updated on my adventures (which I hope to have, but not the scary kind!).

More later!
